I decided to become a health coach about 10 years ago when I was winding down a successful and hectic nursing career in a variety to administrative and clinical fields. This hectic life had lead to some health problems for me. My weight was up and down, I have thyroid disease, arthritis, hypertension, and anxiety. I knew I wanted to change all those things.
Taking the IIN health coaching course changed my life for the better. During our first weeks of training, we were encouraged to try every diet, every stress management and breathing technique introduced. We were asked to keep a sleep log. On and on and on! Sometimes I thought it was "too much". But, I was always the girl who followed the rules, so I tried to make all the changes and try all the new ways of eating and cooking. And little by little, I made many of those changes.
In addition to taking the challenging IIN course and becoming certified, I also became certified by the National Society of Health Coaches (NSHC). This involved some coursework and an examination. I passed both the IIN and NSHC exams with flying colors. Today I continue to read and learn about the latest research in the field of health, much of it focusing on nutrition, stress management, and exercise. The importance of good relationships is also documented to be very important.
10 years later, I am healthier, my hypertension is under control, my weight is normal and stable, my arthritic joints are pretty much pain free, and I am happier! I just had my 77th birthday, and don't feel it or look it (according to all my friends). And I still have lots of energy and zest for life!
I've learned to gradually make changes that I can now stick with myself. Because I've learned to change, I am able to support you as you learn to change.
My goal is to help you become healthier and happier in a way that fits you! You will learn about the IIN healthy plate which focuses on eating more plant based, whole, real foods and is a guideline for dietary and lifestyle habits. Join me in this journey. You can make changes for the better!
